A History of Jewish Ceremonial Objects
with Frann Addison
While a graduate student at Cranbrook Academy of Art, Michigan, in 1977, Frann Addison read an inspirational article on the need for contemporary Judaica, which she credits with launching her focus on creating Jewish Ritual Objects. She has since become a premier Judaica artist, with her work placed in the permanent collections of the Great Synagogue Jerusalem, the American Museum of Jewish History in Philadelphia, the Bernard Museum of Judaica of Temple Emanu-El, New York, the Mizel Museum in Denver, and the Oregon Jewish Museum in Portland.
Frann will explore the origin of Jewish ceremonial objects used in the home. She will discuss major holidays and celebrations and the ceremonial objects used in accordance with them. Rituals, superstitions, and religious requirements will be noted, as well as Christian influence and the artistic influence of the country in which they were created.
